The Fabulous Porky Porcellous
 Everyone
Five years ago, I had to leave my job as an artist at a local studio, and I began working as an Instructional Aide in a kindergarten class. My new career path brought me many new challenges and experiences, but none so life altering as meeting Britney, the classroom guinea pig!
I had never known a guinea pig before. I had many rabbits as a child, and had friends who were lucky enough to have hamsters and gerbils. But somehow, an animal lover like myself had never stepped into the Wonderful World of Guinea Pigs. Britney changed all that!
It was love at first wheek! Soon I was bringing treats in for Britney every morning, and I was delighted by her squeals and whistles. I began reading about guinea pigs and was amazed at how bright and charming they were.
Britney soon became a fixture at our house on weekends. Even my husband, who declared upon Britney's first visit..."Get it out of here!" soon looked forward to the weekend visits by "His Darling"!!!
As the school year drew to a close, I realized I would be reassigned to another class the following year. And despite our love affair with her, Britney would never be ours.
Enter Porky.
I am the first to admit that, back in those days, I was pretty pignorant. I hadn't even discovered the GPDD yet! So when it came time to say goodbye to Britney, off I went to Petco to buy our family a guinea pig of our own!
I must say that the salesgirl at Petco was VERY knowledgable and helpful. She told me all about nutrition, (especially Vitamin C), warned me about drafts, and refused to sell me an exercise ball, explaining how it could hurt the piggy as they weren't built for them Then she introduce me to Porky.
Porky, simply put was, (and is ) the cutest pig ever to walk the planet! Big bright eyes, a gorgeous mass of hair, and the sweetest dispostion this side of Heaven! It was love at first cuddle, and we never looked back.
My family fell in love with our newest member right away! Even our dog, Gaylord found Porky cute and amusing. Lyle, our cat, lost interest after the first sniff.
Porky has been with us four years now. She is the same sweetie we first brought home. She is a cuddle pig who rarely runs when you try to pick her up. I like to think it's just because she's friendly, but the truth of the matter is, well, Porky just doesn't see the point in moving much! (She has been known to pop for romaine, though!) Porky will get on your lap and sprawl right out...legs behind and head down. And she loves when we scratch her under her chin! We call this seeing her "beautiful lip". As you can see in the pigture, Porky gets her chin up high to have it rubbed!
Since we first met Britney, we've learned alot about guinea pigs, and have been lucky enough to own three others, as well as had a batch of babies!
We love each and every one of our pigs, and I love seeing everybody else's pigs on their sites and hearing all about them. But I know for certain, there will never, ever be another guinea pig in our lives quite like our Porky Porcellous! Sadly Porky died at the beginning of July, 2007 she was six. She will be greatly missed. We love you Porky.
